In ancient Greek philosophy, dianoia (διάνοια) refers to the discursive faculty of the mind: the capacity for logical thinking, structured analysis, and step-by-step problem-solving.
Philosophers contrasted dianoia with nous: where nous represents immediate intuitive understanding, dianoia is the deliberate, methodical reasoning that works through a problem from premise to conclusion.
